Vector Icon Set | Quarter Circle Animals
This project was a lot of fun! We had to make a set of icons, and I saw something that I wanted to try. Icons have to be simple, and they have to belong together. I remember seeing someone make animals out of circles that were cut, and I didn’t go look for the project again so I wouldn’t copy his ideas. I sketched out a few other ideas to make sure that this was really the idea that I wanted to do, but I was so in love with this idea I already knew I wanted to pursue it.
I also knew that I have a hard time with color scheme, so I specifically wanted to assign myself a color scheme that I could apply to the whole design. So I wrote that down as well. I then made a hard draft just in black and white of possible shapes that I could develop into animals. I drew white lines on them so I would remember what they were haha.
Of course I know the draft stinks and with color and refinement it will be amazing. The critique I got on my drafts was to make the lines clean and to not just draw them. I was of course planning on that, I just drew the white lines so I would remember what animal that shape was. I was also told to make the eyes bigger, especially if I want to have a little glimmer in them. So after seeing this advice, I jumped into adding color and came up with the following:
I think it turned out pretty well! I was able to stay simple, the color scheme fits each animal and ties them all together, they are simple, and they look like they belong in a set!
