Photographer Tshirt Design

I have wanted to make a shirt like this for the longest time, so when we had an assignment to design a t-shirt, I got so excited! We had to design it with no gradients, and a limit of 6 colors, because that’s how a t-shirt has to be designed half the time. It needed to also be more design and illustration heavy rather than text heavy.

I started out with some sketches. I sketched more than just my original idea to make sure it was what I wanted to do. I also contemplated designing a t-shirt for my husband who is a Jeep enthusiast. Below are those sketches.

Sketches

I still was in love with my idea, especially being photographer, so I continued to develop that idea. I wanted to only use three colors, highlights, midtones, and shadows. Here are the screenshots of adding those three colors.

Then I thought “well this is boring” so I added a grunge look to it. This is done with both using a creative brush stroke, and creating shapes myself. After creating it, I showed it to my professor who suggested evening out some grunge, and getting rid of the middle highlight inside the lens because it doesn’t belong. This was the final product!
